What Was Your Favorite Concert Ever?

Posted in Uncategorized on December 29, 2007 by kerriedub

What concert made an impact on your life and why?

I have a good one……

It was September 13th, 2001….two days after our whole world was rocked. We were all pretty much shell shocked and lost. All we could do was watch the news and cry and worry what would happen next.

We had tickets to the John Mellancamp concert at the Tweeter Center that were bought way before any of the horror of 911 happened. Our whole family was going to go. Me, my boyfriend Dan (now my husband), my daughter, My Mom, My Sister, her boyfriend (now her husband), and my brother.

After what happened, we questioned whether we should go or not. We were really not in any kind of mood to go to a concert. We thought about it, and finally decided that we would go as a family…to be together and maybe get our mind off things, but most of all – to be together.

It ended up being the best thing we could have done at the time.

What can be more American than John friggin Mellancamp?

We sat on a blanket listening to all our favorite songs and just being together……but it was one song that really brought EVERYONE together that night. When he sang “Pink Houses”, the whole crowd went wild. It was like an anthem being sung throughout the crowd. I have never seen a whole crowd sing along to a song like they were singing that night. It was surreal. Looking around at everyone crying and yelling/singing the words to the song will always be in my mind. The words to the song were very fitting with what was going on and how everyone pretty much felt.

“Aint that America…you and me…Aint that America…something to see…Aint that America…home of the freeeeeeeeeeeee”

I’ ll never forget that night………….

Just Like US!!!!

Am I the only one that cannot stand US Weekly magazines feature “Star’s – Their just like US!”????

It showcases celebrities doing ‘normal’ things.  You know, things like you and I would do! (note: sarcastic tone…).  I am kind of all set with looking at pictures of, say…”Jodie Foster stretches her legs!” or “Matthew Perry plays basketball!” or “Carmen Electra picks up her trash!”

AND….they put ridiculous captions to the pictures like

  • They stretch their legs!
  • They play basketball!
  • They pick up their own trash!

Like all of these things that “THEY” are doing are, pretty much, MIRACLES taking place.  Like celebrities are these ALIENS or something (well, some of them MIGHT be….)

Wouldn’t it be WAYYYYY more interesting if the captions (and pictures) would be more along the lines of:

  • Nicole Richie gets spit and peed on!
  • Kate Holmes does a lip skid down the street!
  • Cameron Diaz gets her arm ripped off by a passing truck!
  • Paris Hiltons false eyelash infects her wonky eye, and it swells to the size of Montana!
  • Britney Spears’ cheap synthetic hairpiece catches fire!

Now THOSE captions would grab my attention NOT “Beyonce pets a DOG!”

WHO EFFING CARES?????????

………you can smuggle some volcanic mud home from St. Lucia!

On our honeymoon, I convinced my husband to go on the Volcanic Mud Bath excursion on the island of St. Lucia. After taking in the breathtaking views of this beautiful, lush island (about an hour and a half worth to be exact), we arrived at the village of Soufrier/Sulfur Springs Drive in Volcano. After getting past the overwhelming smell of sulfur (like a huge giant egg fart….), we viewed the volcano and started down to the hot mud baths (the reason why I had booked the excursion in the first place).

You would expect the mud baths to be these thick, bubbling masses of mud, but they are just regular pools of water heated by the volcano above them.

The mud lies at the bottom of the pools, and on the edge of the river banks nearby. The people that were with us on the excursion were gingerly soaking in the therapeutic waters, while I was scooping up mud, slathering it on myself, and exclaiming “SHIT! You would pay about $200 for this in a SPA! Damn RIGHT I’m taking advantage of this!”

Soon, a couple of people started doing the same thing, slowly coming around to my way of thinking, although not as excessive as I was (packing the mud on every possible part of skin, including my face). Most of the them were half-heartedly spreading a thin layer on their stomachs or arms (like – what is THAT going to do idiots?), and NEVER their face.

I asked my guide of she had any sort of container/bag that I could have to take some of this magical mud back home with me, and luckily she had a baggie. I filled the baggie to capacity with mud lying on the side of the river banks, much to the embarrassment of my husband (who, by the way did NOT slather any mud on himself…which I thought was crazy. Like – why WOULDN’T you?)

When I got back to the cruise ship, I transferred the contents of my baggie into an emptied out plastic jar full of coconut scrub (yup, I sacrificed my precious coconut scrub for the sake of natural, untouched mud).

Now I have a huge container of volcanic/sulfuric mud, which I use on my face on a regular basis. The results are AMAZING. I actually had to lie (just a little bit!) on my customs card when we disembarked that I had not….

11. Mark an X in the Yes or No box. Are you bringing with you:

a. fruits, plants, food, or insects?
b. meats, animals, or animal/wildlife products?
c. disease agents, cell cultures, or snails?
d. soil or have you visited a farm/ranch/pasture outside the United States?
