What concert made an impact on your life and why?
I have a good one……
It was September 13th, 2001….two days after our whole world was rocked. We were all pretty much shell shocked and lost. All we could do was watch the news and cry and worry what would happen next.
We had tickets to the John Mellancamp concert at the Tweeter Center that were bought way before any of the horror of 911 happened. Our whole family was going to go. Me, my boyfriend Dan (now my husband), my daughter, My Mom, My Sister, her boyfriend (now her husband), and my brother.
After what happened, we questioned whether we should go or not. We were really not in any kind of mood to go to a concert. We thought about it, and finally decided that we would go as a family…to be together and maybe get our mind off things, but most of all – to be together.
It ended up being the best thing we could have done at the time.
What can be more American than John friggin Mellancamp?
We sat on a blanket listening to all our favorite songs and just being together……but it was one song that really brought EVERYONE together that night. When he sang “Pink Houses”, the whole crowd went wild. It was like an anthem being sung throughout the crowd. I have never seen a whole crowd sing along to a song like they were singing that night. It was surreal. Looking around at everyone crying and yelling/singing the words to the song will always be in my mind. The words to the song were very fitting with what was going on and how everyone pretty much felt.
“Aint that America…you and me…Aint that America…something to see…Aint that America…home of the freeeeeeeeeeeee”
I’ ll never forget that night………….
